Okay, so I first saw this on blu-ray, which is unrated. I did not know the theatrical was PG-13. The Stepfather is a mundane thriller that attempts to target younger audiences, and it is clearly let down by its storytelling structure.. I was expecting to wonder throughout the movie whether the titular stepfather was or was not a serial killing psychopath, but given that the movie answers that question in the first few shots, there was absolutely no suspense for me. My notes on the remake of The Stepfather. This is a step up from Prom Night, the last remake directed by Nelson McCormick and scripted by J.S.
